Coney Island
A Coney Island Mind
This wall hanging was an interpretation of "A Coney Island Mind" My goal was to recreate how I thought Coney Island looked -- in my mind -- through the use of patchwork quilting. I had often felt that the blocks entitled Rocky Road to Kansas and the Mariner's Compass created movement so used modifications of these blocks for the ferris wheel and roller coaster. The ocean waves and the sand were a new technique that I had just read about and was anxious to try. I made a rough sketch of the whole quilt before I began, but did each section separately. In the end, I joined the sections together by hand and then machine stitched them into place before quilting. |
